The CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties)
have been busy this year.

Many companies of all sizes have had to dig deep into their pockets this year. With 438 fines GDPR 830 million euros for GDPR violations, it has been a very successful year for European data protection authorities.

Indeed, according to the CMS , a website that lists all fines imposed by European agencies that are made public, the total amount of fines in 2022 was €831,850,110.

It is only natural that Ireland takes the lion's share, with more than €680 million. This is where most of the Big Tech companies are based.

In addition, there were three fines for Facebook and Instagram's parent company, Meta, totaling €687 million.

Clearview overwhelmed

France ranks third on the list, with more than 25 million euros in accumulated fines. That figure skyrocketed after the imposition of a hefty fine (€20 million) against the American giant specialised facial recognition—Clearview.
