[The CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties)] All local authorities must appoint a DPO

The CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties) formal notices to 22 municipalities to appoint a Data Protection Officer.

Regardless of their size, all local authorities are now required to appoint a DPO. This is the new post from the personal data regulator, the CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties), this afternoon on its LinkedIn account.

A year ago, the appointment of a DPO (or DPD in French) was already a requirement for local authorities with more than 20,000 inhabitants. Those that have not yet complied with this requirement one year after this warning have been formally notified to proceed with this appointment.

The President of the CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties),Marie-Laure Denis, has formally notified 22 municipalities to appoint a DPO within four months.
