Pap NDiaye, Minister of National Education, states that Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace are two solutions that do not meet the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation.
The minister no longer wants free versions of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace in schools. These two solutions are not compatible with the GDPR, nor with what is known as the “on-premises cloud.”
The CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties) recommends that institutions instead choose service providers subject to European law—providers that do not transfer data to the United States but host it within the European Union.
Institutions, and local authorities in particular, must therefore only choose service providers that are expressly subject to European law.
