The social network TikTok has been fined €5 million for failing to comply with GDPR. Two reasons were identified. Firstly, users of the website were not able to refuse cookies as easily as they could accept them. Secondly, users were not given clear information about the purposes of cookies on the site.
This time, the checks only focused on the TikTok website and not on the mobile app.
Between May 2020 and June 2022, several inspections were carried out on the "tiktok.com" website. These inspections revealed that TIKTOK INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES UK LIMITED in the United Kingdom and TIKTOK TECHNOLOGY LIMITED in Ireland had failed to comply with the GDPR breaching the obligations set out in Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act.
