Meta fined €390 million for non-compliance with GDPR

On Wednesday, January 4, Facebook's parent company was fined a total of €390 million for failing to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation. The penalty was imposed by the Irish Data Protection Commission, acting on behalf of the European Union.

Meta relied on an erroneous legal basis for the processing of personal data it carries out for highly targeted advertising purposes.

In France, Apple has been sanctioned by the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés.

The two fines imposed by Meta are divided into a first fine of €210 million for Facebook and a second fine of €180 million for Instagram.

Meta is therefore obliged to bring its personal data processing policy into line, within a period of no more than 3 months.
