On Wednesday, January 4, Facebook’s parent company was fineda total of 390 million euros for violating the General Data Protection Regulation. The penalty was imposed by the Irish Data Protection Commission, acting on behalf of the European Union.
Meta relied on an erroneous legal basis for the processing of personal data it carries out for highly targeted advertising purposes.
In France, Apple has been sanctioned by the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés.
The two fines imposed by Meta are divided into a first fine of €210 million for Facebook and a second fine of €180 million for Instagram.
Meta is therefore required to bring its personal data processing policy into compliance within a period not exceeding three months.
